VB Crit League Race Report – Round 1

Well.. that was pretty mental!   

I don’t think we could have asked for a better start to the new Velo Bavarian Crit League. It blew us away the amount of riders that entered each race. On top of that we had the weather, and then you brought all your family and friend’s which made for a really special atmosphere. 

With growth comes challenges, and we may have been a little rusty from the winter break, but the day still ran pretty smoothly and we’ll continue to look for improvements over the series. 

One of my frustrations was that I didn’t actually watch much of the racing or spend time chatting dissecting the race with you. What I did manage to witness, proved there is some great racing talent here in the midlands at all levels. 

The swelled numbers could have made for negative racing, but there were constant attacks, counter attacks and various team tactics in play that ensured all points were well earned. In fact, only 1 race winner came from a bunch sprint. 

Special mention has to go to Joel Hurt, (who we predict big things for) broke, and then stayed away solo, from a 99 strong peloton for half of the race to win.

It would be remiss of me not to mention the few crashes. While minimum, we do encourage you to race safely and look out for your fellow riders. We’ve been in touch with the riders and nobody has been seriously injured – we do wish them a speedy recovery, non more so than our own Graham. Hopefully we’ll see them back soon.  We also had a report of car accident outside the race track entrance and again, we’d ask for you to be considerate of our neighbours. We’re on the back foot already being cyclists, so lets try not to add fuel to the fire.
