Race Report – Haus GP

The inaugural Haus GP took place at Darley Moor under British Cycling Regional C+ rules, bringing together riders from novice to elite categories for a unique three-part challenge. Across the day, competitors faced a 45-minute sprint criterium, a time trial, and a 90-minute endurance criterium, with the overall General Classification (GC) decided on points scored in each discipline.

The weather stayed dry, but as the hours passed, the wind strengthened and the temperature dropped, adding another layer of difficulty to an already demanding format.

Unfortunately, some of our regular supporters were sidelined. Craig Lamont (injury), Tom Caller (illness), and Josh Williams (illness) weren’t expected to be at full strength. Craig wisely sat out on his physio’s advice, but still contributed hugely by capturing some outstanding photographs throughout the day.

We were also fortunate to have Duncan Parsonage providing superb live commentary and Ryan Macland keeping everything on track with chip timing—despite organiser Richard’s best efforts to complicate matters by adding a rider after the schedules had been printed, disrupting the rider number–chip correlation. To make things worse, the control tower had an infestation of bluebottles apparently hatched from something best left unidentified. Somehow, Duncan and Ryan kept the show rolling brilliantly.

The Sprint Criterium – 45 Minutes

From the starter’s whistle, the race was aggressive, with the strongest riders forcing the pace immediately. The intensity proved too much for some, and riders began to slip off the back within the first lap.

A decisive break of four formed, featuring Oliver Snodden, Caleb Pain, Josh Horsfield, and Adam Kenway. They quickly carved out a 30-second lead before an unfortunate crash in the bunch behind brought the race to a halt. With riders injured, the decision was made to award results based on the previous lap. Thanks to the quick actions of our on-site medic and volunteers, those involved were taken to hospital, and we’re pleased to report both are expected to make a full recovery.

The Individual Time Trial – 7 Laps (Reverse Circuit)

The TT flipped the usual format, sending riders around the circuit in reverse. We’re always nervous about running races the opposite way to normal as it seems riders struggle with right turns!

Here, Adam Kenway produced a blistering ride to dominate the field, stopping the clock at 21:18—a time no one else could match.

The Endurance Criterium – 90 Minutes

The final race of the day asked the ultimate question of stamina. After two demanding events, tired legs were already a factor, and with the wind now howling across the circuit, the stage was set for a brutal test.

Any hopes of a steady opening soon vanished. From the gun, the pace was fierce, and a leading group of nine eventually formed at the front. Behind, the peloton was strung out, with riders digging deep to limit losses. By the closing laps, the break was close to lapping the field.

On the bell lap, Max Sillifant launched a bold solo move. Showing grit and composure, he held his gap to take a spectacular win.

Closing Thoughts

The Haus GP was designed as a celebration of the racing season and a chance to offer something different to the Darley Moor racing community. With its three-part structure, exciting racing, and great atmosphere, we hope everyone who came along enjoyed it as much as we did.

We were very lucky to be supported on the day by Fast&Up Hydration who provided some great prizes. We also got to meet Mark from Velotool and learn more about their products. Please do give them a follow and support where you can. For photos, check out Craig Lamont and Emma Wilcock

Massive thanks go to our volunteers, medics, commentators, timing crew, and supporters—without you, none of this happens.

We’ll see you again in 2026.
