Saturday saw the Haus team back at Darley for the first race of the 2024 season.
We were blessed with a dry day but it was windy and a tad on the chilly side. This coupled with the largest field of competitors we’ve ever had made for a great honest day of racing.
Starting with the Open Cat 4 race, it was quickly blown to shreds with echelons forming all over the track. Jozsef Owen took full advantage of his time trail pedigree and solo’d to victory, leaving the chasing group to sprint for the final podium places.
Next we had the Open E123 race which consisted of a stacked field of over 80 riders battling it out for an hour. Breakaway riders Damien Clayton for Le Col Race Team took the honours from Joe Shillabeer who were too strong for the chasing peloton.
The Open 3/4 race completed the day and with 15mins to go, looked like it was going to be the first race finishing in a bunch sprint, Jozsef Owen, racing in his second race of the day, along with Matthew Mernin from Muckle CC had other plans and stole a 20 second gap that they were able to hold for 8 laps sealing 1st and 2nd as the bunch closed in to make up the top 10.
Throughout march, we also have NRG Chains providing prizes for the most combatitive rider in each race. In the Cat 4 race, Lee Shaw for Velo Bavarian wins a waxed chain. Josh Housley for HUUB BCC Race Team wins ceramic jockey wheels in the E123 and James Marston for Otley Cycle Club wins some wax lube from the 3/4.
Hopefully see you at the next one!
